An update on Tusky and the future of our services
Details on Tusky’s planned shutdown and guidance for retrieving your data.
Today we’re sharing a difficult but important update about the future of Tusky and the services we operate.
From the first days of Walrus developer preview, through testnet and on to mainnet, Tusky has grown into the leading publisher on Walrus. To date, Tusky has uploaded 77.4 TB of raw data (unencoded), actively manages 45.7 million files on Walrus. In the last 30 days alone 3.7 million files were uploaded across 47k distinct uploading accounts. We've helped onboard great projects like Claynosaurz, Pudgy Penguins, ONE Championship, Collective Memory, Humanity Protocol, Unchained Podcast, 3DOS, Swarm Network, Anima Labs, Itheum, and many NFT projects. We’re deeply grateful to the users, developers, and partners who made that all possible.
While Tusky has demonstrated clear adoption, it has not yet reached profitability, and our efforts to fundraise have not progressed within the timeframe required at this time to continue operating.
What this means for Tusky and our users
Effective immediately, Tusky will begin a planned shutdown process.
Users will continue to be able to access accounts and data through the app, API and SDK, and our public aggregator will continue to run through January 19, 2026. After this date, operation of these services is currently scheduled to end.
We take our responsibility to users extremely seriously, and our priority now is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to safely retrieve their data. While we are working to extend this window of availability, we cannot currently guarantee users will be able to back up and export their data stored on Tusky after January 19, 2026.
Billing and refunds
- All billing has been stopped and there will be no further charges.
- We have processed refunds for all December payments.
- Annual subscriptions may be eligible for a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of the subscription. Additional details on refund eligibility and processing will be shared via our documentation.
- Please allow several business days for refunds to be processed.
Next steps
We urge all users to take action now to secure their data.
Developers and retail users should follow these steps.
For our partners, we are working closely with the Walrus Foundation to support a smooth migration of your data, and will be in touch directly.
During this period, we will continue to explore potential acquisition opportunities.
I would like to thank my co-founder for his partnership and support over the years; the Tusky team for their dedication and for building something we are deeply proud of; the Mysten and Walrus engineers, who often felt like an extension of our own team; the Walrus Foundation for their ongoing support; the many founders and builders who inspired us along the way; and, most importantly, the users and partners who believed in our mission.
