Akord sunsetting on Arweave
After serious reflection, we’ve made the difficult decision to sunset our current product on the Arweave blockchain.
Dear Arweavers,
After serious reflection, we’ve made the difficult decision to sunset our current product on the Arweave blockchain. This includes the app (v2.akord.com), API, SDK, and CLI that support our vault protocol on Arweave.
Please note that any data uploaded to Arweave using Akord, whether public or private, will always remain accessible.
During our time building on Arweave, we’ve uploaded over 2 million files, onboarded 14,000 users, and committed 7 million transactions. While Arweave’s permanent storage has helped our users secure valuable data for NFTs, heritage archives, and other projects, we’ve realized that a more versatile decentralized storage solution will enable us to explore a wider range of use cases.
We understand that this is a significant change, and we are committed to supporting our users throughout this transition. Below is a detailed timeline of the sunsetting process and how it affects your account.
Sunsetting timeline
Starting today, Akord on Arweave will be sunsetting over a 6-month period, with the final day TBC. During this time please note the following.
- The Akord app, API, CLI, and SDK based — our Arweave products will no longer receive updates or new features.
- We will be launching Akord Weave (previously referred to as Akord Explorer), a perpetual tool deployed on Arweave. This tool will allow you to access and decrypt data uploaded via Akord after the sunsetting is complete.
- You will continue to access your accounts and vaults as usual, and any storage you’ve already purchased can still be used during this period.
- If you do not wish to use remaining storage on your account, you can contact us for a refund.
- We will stop charging for subscriptions (as of the day of this announcement). Subscribers who are using higher API access will continue to get that performance for the duration of the sunsetting period, but will not be charged.
- As of today, we will no longer accept new signups on v2.akord.com, or subscriptions and payments for permanent storage on Arweave.
Support
We understand this change may have an impact, especially for users leveraging the Arweave solution as part of a larger project, and our team is here to support you. Please reach out to us via email or Discord for assistance or with any questions you may have.
What’s next for Akord?
While we are sunsetting our product on Arweave, we are excited to be moving forward with a new chapter for Akord.
We’ll be moving Akord to the Walrus protocol, built on the Sui blockchain, to offer performant, scalable, and cost-effective decentralized storage.
To our community
We want to thank every one of you for your support and for being part of our journey on Arweave. We wish the Arweave eco and all its passionate builders the best.
While this marks the end of one chapter, it’s the beginning of a new one. We look forward to having you with us in the next phase of Akord’s mission.
Sincerely,
The Akord Team
